Veils… help!!

Okay, so, when it comes to hunting for the perfect veil it’s difficult to know where to start, what to look for and what on earth some of the words used even mean.

The first decision to make is if you would like a blusher on your veil or not. A blusher is the piece that falls over your face and is traditionally worn to cover the face as you walk down the aisle and then pushed to the back when you reach the alter, to reveal yourself to your (very nearly) husband. Some brides opt for a blusher and choose to wear it back the whole day creating that second layer, but its nice to have the option there.

The next decision to be made is length… now, theres so many options! And to confuse you even more they have all sorts of different names to describe the lengths. This however, is the selection I offer, explained, and is in line with standard veil lengths. But please remember, I’m more than happy to cut your veil to any specific length because I want it to be perfect for you!! So if you think you want your veil to be 62 inches, for example, and that doesn’t fall into one of the categories listed then just drop me a message and I’m sure I’ll be able to help.

The length shown is from comb to hem…

Shoulder: 20'' (50cm)

Elbow: 30'' (76cm)

Fingertip: 37’’ (94cm)

Waltz: 55'' (140cm)

Chapel: 90'' (228cm)

Cathedral: 110'' (280cm)

When opting for a blusher the ‘+ X’ is the length of the front layer of fabric used to cover the face.

Shoulder: 20''+20'' (50cm + 50cm)

Elbow: 30''+30'' (76cm +76cm)

Fingertip: 37'' +32’’ (94cm + 80cm)

Waltz: 55'' +32'' (140cm + 80cm)

Chapel: 90'' +32'' (228cm + 80cm)

Cathedral: 110'' + 32'' (280cm + 80cm)

Now for veil width…

All of my single length veils are cut at 90cm wide (35.5’’) as standard, which creates a slim, sleek veil that falls down your back elegantly, OR you can upgrade to ‘wide’ which is 150cm (59’’) wide and gives that extra fullness to your veil. The wide option works particularly well for chapel and cathedral length veils where the veil will fall on the floor and the extra width allows it to create a beautiful train.

Width for the blusher veils is 2x your blusher measurement. So for example if you choose a shoulder length (20''+20'') veil with a blusher the width will be 40’’. If you choose a Chapel length (90’’ + 32’’) veil with blusher the width will be 64’’.

Got it?!

I know its a bit of a minefield trying to translate and understand which veil is the veil you’re after but hopefully this may have helped a teeny bit. However, I totally get that it can be a little overwhelming so I’m always more than happy to help. If you’ve got any questions just drop me a message and we can chat all things veils. I’m constantly looking to expand my veil collection and currently have two new styles waiting to launch, which is super exciting!! But I’d also love to hear your ideas, if theres something you’re after and I don’t currently offer it just pop me a message and lets work together to create the perfect veil for you.
