Top tips for finding your dress

I thought I would do my best to collate a few ideas about what style of dress suits who, but before I even begin I want to make it clear that the dress for you is one that you love and feel amazing in, not one that fits ‘the formula’ or what someone else says you should wear!!

My first tip is to try on loads of styles. Whether you plan to buy your dress online (from us!!) or from a store it’s so important to try some styles on to know what shapes you love and what makes you feel fab.

My next nugget of wisdom is to get advice from the people you trust most, sometimes its good to have a friend / bridesmaid/ mum that will tell you honestly their opinion of your choices. It’s handy for someone to see the running trends during your try-on sessions and to point out that a certain neckline is continually coming out as the most flattering for example. Although, they need to allow you to form opinions too so that you don’t say no (or yes) to something based solely on someone else’s opinion and not your own.

Now, Im going to break it down into body shapes and dress styles, but remember what I said… its just a rough guide, your dress is the one that you feel your best in!!

Hourglass body shape : fit& flare/ mermaid. A dress that accentuates your curves and nips in the waist is perfect for you! Something that highlights that small waist and falls in all the right places. Our Aria and Ada dresses suit hourglass body shapes a dream and the neckline can be adjusted to suit various bust sizes too.

Smaller bust: My best advice would be, don’t try and create a bust shape thats not you! Embrace your shape and rock a low v neckline and low back because you are in the position to manage without a bra. Rather than choosing something with a padded bust that doesn’t sit snug against the skin. A dress that falls away at the waist/ has a fuller skirt would work beautifully because your top half is smaller, you can create drama from the waist down. Our Kaya dress with the deep v plunge would suit you perfectly.

Petite: A simple, elegant straight cut dress falls beautifully on a petite frame. Our Lola and Noa dresses are perfect examples of that. You can add that extra bridal touch with a veil or bridal cape. Some subtle embellishment works well so that you’re small frame is not over powered by the detail. An open back is also gorgeous for someone smaller and can elongate the torso for a flattering overall fit.

Pear shaped: Generally and a line style works well for you, something with a decorative bodice may work to accentuate the waist and balance out a fuller hip. Sleeves are also a great addition to balance smaller shoulders and wider hips. One of our bridal crop tops would work well (Ivy, Xanthe, Isla or Darcy) to cut off at the waist and cover the arms and shoulders bringing interest to the upper body.

Athletic/ toned upper body: halter neck dresses work a dream for a wider shoulder more athletic build, the perfect way to show off your sculpted arms wider shoulders and toned upper body. Our Aria dress has a gorgeous high neck bodice adaption which could also be made to Ada, or our gorgeous halter dress Noa.

Fuller bust: wide straps are great for the extra support, hiding bra straps and balancing a wider chest. Adding sleeves in the form of an overlay dress/ top also allow you to create a higher neckline overlaying a lower neckline to protect modesty, add support and still create the illusion and silhouette of a plunging v or lower neckline etc. Our Florrie overlay dress works beautifully over Aria to add that lace layer across your chest and a wide long sleeve.

Apple shape: Point out your greatest asset and accentuate your slender legs with a thigh slit in the skirt. All of our dresses can have a slit inserted to break up the fullness of a skirt and highlight those legs! A v neckline also often works well for an apple shape figure to creates curves and interest in the upper body and balance a wider hip. Aria, Ada, Lola and Kaya can all be made with a v neckline and leg split.

And finally I can’t end this blog without reminding you, go with what YOU want to. Choose the dress that makes you feel amazing, that moves with your body and feels comfortable for you. Get advice, take tips and suggestions but make the final decision on your own, I promise you it will be the right one!!

If you’ve got any other questions about any of dresses and how they might work with your body or in comparison to something else you’ve tried on just pop me a message, I’d love to be part of your dress journey.
